I still do not understand your problem. Probably, you need:

    location / {
        proxy_pass           http://mydomain.com;
        proxy_redirect       off;
        proxy_set_header     Host $host;
    }

    location /redirect/ {
        proxy_pass           http://some.domain.com/;
    }
