reverse proxy

hello everyone,
I'm using nginx as a reverse proxy. Generally everything is fine. I just 
happened to see someone says it's better to turn off back-end server's 
gzip feature otherwise there might be problems in caching pages. Can't 
remember where did I see it, but is it true that I must turn off 
back-end's gzip?
By the way, my back-end is IIS7 running ASP.NET.
