[Ubuntu 10.04] Install Nginx + PHP5 packages?

I happened on this second tutorial, which doesn't use PHP-FPM

... but it doesn't work any better (test.php: "No input file
specified.") :-/

I have a couple of questions:
1. What form of PHP5 FastCGI should I use?
2. How to configure Nginx + PHP5 to work together
3. Is there an authoritative, up-to-date manual so I can read more
about how Nginx works?
