Number of client connections?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to write a module which deals with number of client connections. Any ideas on how could I get such info? Global nginx counters keep "active connections" which also include connections to backends. I'd like to separate backend connection counter with client connections. Can it be done, or nginx http core must be modified?
