Sounds like a blocking disk driver issue, look at the driver settings, dma/pio/caching/advanced sata/etc... Dynamic content is also best served from a different drive (virtual or real) then where nginx is running from. Posted at Nginx Forum: http://forum.nginx.org/read.php?2,260193,260204#msg-260204
