распаковал nginx-0.1.9
зашел, выполнил
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/nginx --with-pcre=../pcre-5.0
make
./configure --with-cpu-opt=sparc64 --with-poll_module --with-select_module --prefix=/usr/local/nginx --with-pcre=../pcre-5.0
make
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/nginx --with-pcre=../pcre-5.0
make
make install

make clean специльно не делал. все прошло отлично.

а ошибки "close() failed (9: Bad file number)" при смене бинарника не
лету (их генерят закрывающиеся старые worker-ы) остались:
