Although I've never been a fan of fastcgi, I'm using nginx as my primary web 
server and never had any serious hiccups with fcgi php.
Nginx as a frontend proxy to a php-enabled Apache sounds good, but I prefer 
the simplicity of a single web server, at least for small websites like 
mine.
