Because Mercurial is a decentralized system.
I do not need to put a central repository on a "foreign" server (what 
happens if I lost this repository?).

With Mercurial I have a local copy on my laptop, and the repository on 
the external server is just a clone (a clone is a copy of a repository 
with full history).

However now we are really off topic...
