php fastcgi support - how do u do it?

The path does not works with php 5.3, but works fine with 5.2.6
Did you have any tip for optimizing php to low RAM env like VPS?
Even if I start only 1 child, it eats 25MB of virtual memory (a lot
more than lighttpd spaw fcgi)
I´ll see what more can I do.
