Unable to build

Im afraid not, that’s one thing I had hoped.  Well actually I tried

./configure
Make
Gcc
Make

So it would pick up where it left off. Is that diffent thatn doing   
./configure
gcc
Make

OK, running out of ideas. Does Nginx build successfully when you do:

make clean
./configure ...
gcc ... # compile upstream-fair by hand
make # build the rest of Nginx
