nginx 0.8.47 php-fpm error_page not working - SOLVED

It's a 'feature' of Chrome, IE and probably some other browsers too.

If you're using version < 0.8.25, or msie_padding is set to 'off', then 
padding up to 512 bytes won't be done for Chrome when error pages are 
generated.
