With nginx on physical host you will get better performance, but VMs are more 
easy to manage and maintain (backup/resoter, upgrade by replacing one VM by 
other VM, fast move to other host in case of hardware failure, e. t. c.).

Decision should depends on many factors including server load (traffic, requests 
per second e. t. c).
