Support for 100-continue is present in nginx.  And it is expected 
to work fine with auth_request.  (The particular ticket is about 
not processing 100-continue but delegating it to a backend 
server, this is not something nginx supports.)

The problem is that browsers don't use 100-continue, and hence it 
won't help in your case.
