Proxy pass, upstream and http/1.0

Litespeed can handle 1.0 / 1.1 connections to backends, and is very 
fast.  Cherokee might be worth looking at too - not tested it, but it 
too apparently is very fast.  If you're just looking for a dedicated 
proxy, try HAProxy.
