Ahh, that's the part I didn't realize. I thought once it was renamed no new log entries would be written there. Glad to know this!

I was wondering about this too. Logrotate seems to be the easiest solution. However I wasn't sure if it would work the same way.  Is there a way to add a few seconds delay before Logrotate begins the compressing?
