intercepting proxy_pass response

Hi -
I have somewhat of a unique requirement.

If the http response from a proxied(proxy_pass) request is 302, I want to
clear a cookie and redirect to a specific url.  Is is possible to intercept
the 302 from the app server and force my own redirect?
